An exploration in color.

Lisa rekindled her childhood passion for art in her early 40’s when she changed jobs. At the suggestion of a career counselor, the former television producer began taking art classes “to keep her creative side alive.” She moved from mixed media to watercolor, then began exploring acrylics. When she began painting abstracts, she gave up the use of brushes, except for the very first background layer of her multi-layered works. “I discovered giving up my brushes very liberating. I found myself first attracted to using tools I loved, like those from my kitchen. I used cheesecloth, ravioli cutters, and pastry wheels in many pieces, including those in this exhibit,” she says. But as her work progressed, she delved into it with her characteristic laser focus and unique creativity. She is often inspired by fabrics, textures from nature, color combinations found in her garden.

Currently, she studies with Tesia Blackburn (aka the ‘Acrylic Diva’) of San Francisco who is the author of “Acrylic Painting with Passion.” She has attended several week-long art retreats with Blackburn to Santa Fe and Sedona. Lisa finds that the southwest provides artistic inspiration in a very unique way.

In 2020, Lisa opened an online store where she uses designs from her paintings in home décor and other products. The store is called Dancing Artist Designs

Proceeds from the sales of Lisa’s painting will go to her non-profit organization Family Sanity, familysanity.org. Family Sanity offers support to parents of teens and young adults dealing with mental health issues, a cause near and dear to her heart.
